Leo Full Moon 2/12/25

Hope as Resistance

This Full Moon in Leo reminds us that freedom will be a defining theme this year. It is a force both sovereign and profoundly authentic—a vital value that shapes our collective experience. Yet, like all forces, the way we channel it determines its outcome.

When selfishness is funneled through freedom, it manifests as self-serving, egotistical, even narcissistic. But when freedom is rooted in grounded service and humble truth, it becomes something entirely different: an inspiring force, a call for advocacy, a leadership that carries heart.

The United States has always had a complicated relationship with freedom. As an individualistic culture, we revere it as a core value, often emphasizing personal liberties, autonomy, and self-determination. Yet, this emphasis can also foster greed, avarice, and entitlement, particularly when freedom is interpreted as unchecked self-interest rather than a shared responsibility. Historically, it has even been wielded as a justification for imperialism and exploitation, reinforcing systems of power that serve the few at the expense of the many.

With Pluto stirring Aquarian mud, the latter is on full display.

Leo and Aquarius illuminate the polarity of freedom- both individual and collective. Leo teaches us to find our own light, to cultivate our unique joy, creativity, and authentic self-expression. Aquarius reminds us that our light is not meant to be hoarded but shared—it is meant to inspire, uplift, and contribute to something greater. True leadership is not about demanding admiration but about empowering others to shine alongside us.

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon echoes that sentiment: “A rainbow.” A symbol of hope, renewal, and the promise of redemption—a breathtaking beauty that emerges after the darkest storm. It awakens us to the everlasting knowing that light is always present. The rainbow reminds us that even after the fiercest storms, there is a bridge between what was and what can be—an arc of possibility stretching across the sky.

This is a call to find your light, not simply as a means of personal relief or comfort, but as a beacon of advocacy. Hope is not the naive expectation that things will magically improve, nor is it passive optimism that everything will unfold as we desire. Instead, hope is the recognition that the story is unfinished—that new choices, opportunities, and possibilities always exist.

In dark times, hope is a radical act of resistance.  It is not acquiescent; it is a verb, a muscle, a force that stands defiantly against oppression and uncertainty. Hope demands that we rise—like the fire of Leo itself—to take action, to say, "Not today. Not on my watch."

And in darker times, we need all the light we can muster.

So, under this Full Moon in Leo, we are called to choose our light wisely—not as a flickering ember of self-interest but as a torch that ignites change. Freedom without wisdom becomes chaos, and hope without action fades into illusion. But when we root our freedom in responsibility and our hope in resilience, we create something enduring—something that withstands the storm and shines even brighter because of it.

The world is shifting, and the weight of history presses upon us, but we are not powerless. We are the authors of what comes next. So let us rise, let us lead, and let us dare to believe that a better way is not only possible—it is already unfolding.

The story is unfinished, and we are here to write it.

“There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it.

If only we’re brave enough to be it.”

— Amanda Gorman
