Taurus Full Moon 11/15/24

Hold Steady

Sometimes, we humans take the short road, and sometimes, we take the long road. Historically, the latter is often more true. Such is the current state of events. The good news is that we get to change eventually. The challenge is the long road is, well, longer, arduous, painful, and often fraught with required (HARD) lessons to push us into rightness. No doubt lessons repeat until we learn them.

And there are some lessons to learn.

Pluto moves into Aquarius from Capricorn on November 19 for the first time since the 18th century. In the last few years, Pluto dipped its toes in Aquarius energy off and on, but this time denotes a significant shift. Pluto moves into Aquarius, and it stays there for the next two decades. There is a line of demarcation between the then and now, what was and what will be, the old and the new. And while Pluto promises change, it does so in transformational ways. I wrote about that in the last New Moon post. You can read more about that here. In general, transformative change is big, heavy, and life-altering because it takes (forces?) us into shadow, even unconscious layers, where we can't unsee what is there. Pluto is the god of the underworld, after all. Death and rebirth exist in the same place.

When Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, it revealed the greedy Capricorn underbelly of capitalistic control of the lending market, which permeated into banks facing enormous losses, and the interconnected financial system was pushed to the brink. On the surface, it was a global financial crisis and one of the worst economic downturns since the Great Depression. Did rebirth come from that shadow revelation? Yes. Collectively, stricter financial regulations were created, and reforms were enacted to protect consumers. It also raised awareness about the dangers of financial risk-taking and ethical practices. But collectively and personally, things were really, really hard there for a while. Such is the nature of Pluto.

Now, Aquarius is not the same as Capricorn. Thus, the arena of learning is different, (though anytime Pluto shows up financial lessons abound). Aquarius is known as the "water bearer," aka truth-teller of the zodiac. So, consequences that reveal technical truth are a major lesson. Collectively and personally, we can expect to face some consequences to choices made. Additionally, the rebelliousness of Aquarius's knowing echoes themes of freedom, authenticity, and cooperation in alignment with a central technical truth. Of course, each of those forces is radically inspiring when done well and woefully dangerous when it isn't. What is the shadow of those forces? Well, the low expression of technical truth looks like denial, magical thinking, cognitive dissonance, and disinformation. No shortage of that currently.  Where and how we get our information is really going to matter. (Want to know more about that, check out Decoding Deception on the GRITandGRACE substack). The shadow of freedom is oppression, "othering," or even violent rebellion. The shadow of a collective community is a mob-like mentality, selfishness, and narcissism. The shadow of authenticity is conformity and coercion.  Heavy stuff. Those shadow forces are undoubtedly alive and well.

Which brings us to the Full Moon in Taurus.

Taurus, as an archetype, counterbalances the complexity of transformation. The Earth, nature, which Taurus represents, is the most potent example of withstanding change. Trees with deep roots, the turning of seasons, new growth after devastation, nature offers the wisdom of patience, stoicism, endurance, and the sturdiness of hope. It reminds us to stay here, now, and to keep our heads where our feet are. The path will unfold in time. It reminds us to ground ourselves in what is truly important- the values, people, practices, and rhythms that sustain us.

Because Taurus's strength is steadiness, perseverance, and deep determination, Taurus also reminds us of the need for clear boundaries and the ability to see actions speak louder than words. Who we are is defined by the choices we make, the words we speak, and the actions we take.

With Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius and Mars in Cancer in their retrograde set-up phases and Uranus standing with this Moon, that heaviness is magnified. Expect the unexpected. There is chaos afoot. Like supernovas and stardust, sometimes things become shattered before they become whole again.

Yet despite the storm, Taurus reminds us that in the midst of all the noise, the whirling sands, and the wind, there is sturdiness within the uncertainty. That practice is our anchor, our reminder of what truly endures. Just as the Earth remains beneath our feet, Taurus guides us to look within and find the resilience to face change without losing ourselves. It teaches us that transformation is a process grounded in strength, not speed, and that we don't have to rush or force but rather move steadily, with intention.

One day, one hour, one minute, one breath at a time.

“In the middle of it all, pause and look around you. Appreciate what’s beautiful. Take in the love. Nod to what’s good and true. And then move forward one step at a time.”~Kathy Freston
