Aquarius New Moon 1/29/25

The light of leadership

This year has undeniably kicked off with a wave of expected intensity—natural disasters, power struggles, and systemic challenges abound. And we should prepare for more. Whenever Pluto enters a new sign, it brings with it a process of dismantling before any empowerment. Pluto, the god of the underworld, has a way of exposing the cracks in our foundations and the shadows in our systems. Its purpose? To reveal what is broken so it can be rebuilt—finding the light hidden within the shadow.

Transformation, as promised by Pluto, is not an easy path. Evolution often occurs when survival is threatened because we have no choice but to confront reality and act. Something must end for something new to begin. It's gritty, it's real, and yet it's full of grace.

Expect to hear a lot about Aquarius this year—and for good reason. Pluto has recently entered Aquarius for the first time since 1778, ushering in a new era of profound change. Curious about what this means and the themes it brings? Check out Pluto in Aquarius: The REAL of Change.

This New Moon in Aquarius amplifies the energies of Pluto's transit, especially the themes of truth and consequences. One key lesson: you can't outrun reality—though many will undoubtedly try.

Aquarius is the sign of accountability, where we reap what we sow. Patterns are revealing themselves more clearly than ever (I wrote more on recognizing patterns here). This is a time to view the world through objective, technical eyes—not through the lens of what we wish to see, but what is real. Both individually and collectively, we will be challenged to confront truths that pierce the veils of our current beliefs. Which is the point. We can't find solutions if we are dealing with the wrong facts.

Expect the unexpected with Aquarius energy, which strikes like lightning—bringing sudden flashes of insight and clarity that disrupt the ordinary and ignite transformation. This energy delivers sudden revelations and situations we cannot unsee, challenging (forcing) us to adapt and grow. Aquarius is the visionary, electrifying the mind with innovative ideas and piercing through confusion to unveil profound truths. Like a lightning bolt, its impact is swift yet enduring, urging us to see what is, trust the unknown, and illuminate the path toward progress.

The challenge we face is simple but profound: will we evolve or repeat? In truth, evolution will happen regardless; the difference is in how graceful or painful the process will be. The wisdom of change reminds us- let go or be dragged.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon adds another layer of depth:

"A man who had for a time become the embodiment of a popular ideal is made to realize that as a person, he is not this ideal."

This feels especially relevant as we witness shifts in leadership, particularly in the political realm of the United States. Many promises have already been walked back. The chaos has begun. Aquarius energy, in its shadow form, can be perilous, manifesting as narcissism, elitism, and god complexes—qualities that destabilize rather than inspire. As true intentions begin to pierce the veil of subterfuge, the disparity between ideals and reality grows too glaring to overlook. The truth—the unvarnished, undeniable real—will emerge with increasing clarity, forcing a collective reckoning with the structures, values, and leaders we’ve entrusted with power.

Pluto's transit through Aquarius will spotlight this shadow side, offering stark warnings against elitism, privilege, false prophets, disinformation, and the narcissistic hubris of those who claim to have all the answers. This energy calls for rebellion, but the critical question is: which part of us is leading the charge? Are we guided by integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to justice? Or are we reacting from a place of fear, entitlement, or self-interest?

It's worth remembering that when one is accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression. The rebellion we need is one that dismantles illusions, challenges inequity, and builds a foundation rooted in truth and shared humanity.

So, as we navigate this powerful New Moon, we are reminded that the light of Aquarius serves as a beacon, urging us to embrace humility, creativity, equanimity, and dignity—both in personal authority and collective leadership. It strikes like a flash of lightning, igniting the courage to rebel against injustice and stand resolutely for what is right. This energy compels us to confront falsehoods, challenge inequity, and champion truth, inspiring us to lead with integrity, authenticity, and a commitment to the greater good.

That is the essence of real leadership.
